The NAU Trijacks is the club triathlon team at Northern Arizona University, my Alma Mater. The biggest challenge we had as a team was recruiting new members. During my time on the team I found that most people were intimated by the idea of doing a triathlon but once they had done one they found out it really wasn’t as hard as they had imagine in their head. The Trijacks needed an identity and an approachable way to introduce new students to the sport.
The first step was to create a logo that would be something that the team could identify with and get behind. The Trijacks shield utilizes three icons one to represent each discipline in the sport - a drop for swimming, a chain link for biking, and a foot for running. The shield also contains the mountains in Flagstaff which is a big part of the city’s identity. For the posterse I decided it was best to split the sport up into a series of posters, one for each discipline. If someone saw a poster with a discipline they already have experience with it makes the jump to the triathlon seem less daunting. When recruiting we found the best way to get someone to join, or atleast try, the team was to start off with finding a sport they already knew, making them feel comfortable with at least 1/3 of the triathlon. By splitting up the posters the goal was have the same effect.
